Damsel 2024
Enjoyable if predictable. Gave me a lot of nostalgia for reading YA Fantasy as a teen. The pacing and tension really worked for me also.
I get the sense a lot of the 1* reviews on here have less to do with the movie’s merit and more to do with not being the intended audience.

The Little Mermaid 2023
Halle Bailey really carried this film. Amazing singer and great potential for her in the future. The prince was pretty good too. Disappointed some of the more seasoned actors were kind of phoning in their performances.
The underwater CGI was super jarring in the first half which was a shame because I loved the aesthetic of the ‘on land’ portion of the movie. If it was better done the underwater kingdom could’ve been so beautiful but instead we got real…

Charmingly entertaining. Saoirse Ronan was the highlight tbh. Found it rather predictable, I get that it’s a satire of a genre that’s famous for its reuse of the same template, but I felt like I was catching on at times I wasn’t ‘meant to’ so the final act was a bit of a let down.
