This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
enjoyed the gore effects (extremely nasty!!) and lead performances but found this weirdly tensionless? the cartoonish tone almost worked but too often felt like a mistake rather than a choice to me.
also reminded me of Love Lies Bleeding at a lot of points (gnarly injection closeups, 80s-inspired body image issues, vomiting up a body part/ whole person on stage, closeups of old men eating, gross sound effects) to The Substance's detriment :(
