Disappointed. Shin Godzilla was such a rich interpretation, this is so weak in comparison. It's too close from the base material, like big budget fan fantasy. At the same time not very good looking. Pathos all over the place. Definitely an interesting myth, but I don't see it there.

Shin Godzilla 2016
Still fascinated by the simple idea of treating this kind of problem in a serious governmental manner. In terms of execution, it's sharp, fast, effective. Some great formal ideas of contextual video quality, layered text, fake destruction. Godzilla finally have that terrifying attribute (the first doesn't exactly work in that regard) of impulsive animal, god-like power over all living creatures. But the film makes it clear that in the end he's just a giant lizard and thus start the eventuality of political exploitation. Will keep revisiting for sure.

That scene where Ichikawa and Nakadai meet is so good. 2 actors with a crushing presence sharing the screen. Completing each other, 2 faces of handicap.
