You know that feeling when you fill your cup up to the brim, adding just enough but not too much, constantly anticipating it to overflow? That’s exactly what this movie felt like except the cup never spills.

I just finished reading the book and it was beautiful and insightful and heartbreaking, so I really wanted to like the film. However, overall, I was disappointed. It was just so flat in comparison and lacked the subtlety and introspection that was carefully crafted in the book. There were key themes I don’t think were properly established, causing the film to seem a bit rushed and they didn’t give the characters enough substance, especially Kathy. On its own I still think it would’ve been an okay movie.

I just rewatched this movie after some years and forgot just how dark it is. Not overly graphic but it was still one gut punch after another. It kept a steady pace though and it felt so real as you watched the whole situation just spiral out of control. Save some weird cuts in a few scenes, the cinematography is also really great.

White Lotus meets Eyes Wide Shut lol. Loved the visual style but it kind of lost its steam by the second half. It felt like something was missing from the plot. Or like they introduced an interesting idea and then sort of abandoned it. I got the underlying message, but overall still underwhelming.
