Civil War 2024
Raw. Tense. Brutal. Visceral.
Garland delivers an unflinching look at a nightmare scenario: the self-immolation of a fallen empire, shown through the literal lenses of war journalists, as they document the fight over its ashes.
Stellar performances all around, most notably from Dunst and Moura, although Jesse Plemons' evocative lone scene steals the show and rivals any horror of the past twenty years in terms of sheer tension, visceral fear, and unsettling brutality.

Poor Things 2023
What more can be said about this coming of age horror sci-fi romance with the visual whimsy and quirkiness of Wes Anderson, coupled with biting dialogue dripping in social commentary about the patriarchy (and more specifically, the ownership of a woman's body), life, death, and what it means to be human?
One of the freshest, most creative, entertaining films not just of 2023, but of all time.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour 2023
A technically impressive behemoth of a concert, captured in a way that makes you feel like you're watching it live. Pure spectacle from start to finish, and would be an entertaining watch for anyone who's a fan of live music and concert films in general, not just Swifties.
