I like to be made so uncomfortable that I'm forced into laughter.

Possibly the most existential movie I've ever seen. No words can really do it justice... it's a full experience in slow-burn mediative form (and by slow, I mean nearly 3 hours of loooong takes and mind-bending abstract philiosophy conversations). And yet, I wasn't once bored. It's incredible. Thought-provoking and beautifully filmed - the entire concept and history behind the making of it is fascinating.
It's been a while since a movie made me nerd out this hard, but I can guarantee I'll be stuck in the depths of google for the night.

This has a lot of raving reviews, but personally it just felt ok? It was fun and quirky, but became repetitive at parts. A really unique take on the time travel concept that reminded me more of a TV comedy skit than a film. For what it is (super low budget, possibly one long take?, humorous mind bender) there's definitely plenty to appreciate on paper. Just didn't suck me in on a level where I could become fully immersed.

The single line description on Prime sounded so silly and simple... You have NO idea what you're walking into. (keep it that way if you plan to watch - knowing any more other than this is about a mysterious coffee table will ruin it). This falls among the extremely limited number of movies that made me feel physically ill...top tier in what it was aiming to accomplish. Fucking hated it.

This was my first time catching an advanced screening that included a Q&A with Oz Perkins, so my rating is definitely skewed by the overall experience. I will say that a full theater, in general, would elevate The Monkey. It's hilarious, full of dark humor, and does not take itself seriously one bit - an enthusiastic audience is great to feed off. Way more straightforward and less arthouse than Longlegs, but still very much stylish and creative.
