Unexpected. I didn't realize I had expectations and assumptions going in until they were all subverted. Had no idea where it was going (but not in like a big twist kind of way) more like it wasn't formulaic. Definitely need to rewatch. Glad I squeezed it in before Oscar night.
P.S. more movies should have intermissions, let's bring that back.

Truly amazing that this movie overcame so much cynicism from the public and bad press (Ari cheating scandal mostly) to be an absolute smash hit. Cynthia Erivo is divine. Ariana Grande was born to be Glinda. Johnathan Bailey made me kick my feet in the air. I didn't feel bored the entire movie, and gosh darn it, Defying Gravity made me cry. I had no idea what the plot of this movie was, so hearing the song in context was like hearing it truly for the first time.
