It’s got its rough edges for sure but this is still my favorite Christmas movie. Paul Giamatti is a national treasure and Vince Vaughn is hilarious!

The Ten Commandments 1956
Yul Brynner is my favorite Egyptian actor. And don't get me started on Charlton Heston
However, that aside, this is THE classic 1950s epic, for better or worse. It has all the flair and delivery of a live performance of Shakespeare. Charles Heston and Yul Brynner both act their hearts out, though Anne Baxter stole the show as Nefertari. Phenomenal movie only brought down by some tropes of the day and of the genre. I recommend giving it a watch!

I was very disappointed by this film. While I think they were attempting an empowering or even feminist message, this is majorly undercut by the influence of the male gaze.
Practically every shot of our main character was drawn with one hand. This is particularly disturbing during the violent scenes of abuse in this film, which were unnecessary, graphic, and hypersexualized.
