Not as bad as they say-- it has some cool atmosphere and creepy ideas. But it does fall apart as it moves along
Fascinating doc -- most of what made the film what it was was pure accident. But--maybe not all: because it seems they were smart enough to record everything & figure it out later. And that's what this doc proves -- as they filmed so much of the process.
Terribly pointless and terribly long. Makes the first look like a classic.
Hoot of a film is a bit of a mess in terms of logic and consistency with the crime, but Edgar Wallace's feel for mystery moves this vehicle and Pichel's affinity for mood and darkness make this pleasurable.
This and the earliest version of "Seven Keys To Baldpate" make me want to sink in to the mood of early 30's mysteries and chamber dramas. They don't over-light scenes and it is clear that the atmosphere and darkness are as important…
