  Still processing this... I did like it a lot but it also left me stranded with something akin to anger and frustration due to my own disdain for most of its characters (save the wonderful Cleo, portrayed by a stunning Aparicio in her film debut), my own lack of connection with pretty much everything and the hideous era it portrays. I do believe its true power relies on its discourse on womanhood during the 70s in Mexico more than anything…

  A film about non-conformity and the eternal search for identity completed by a subtle commentary on the social and economic situation of Tunisia that, despite its location and the culture it depicts, becomes easy to relate to. Cinematography does wonders as the film blossoms—which does take a moment—yet it does help to establish both Hedi's personality and the toxic environment around him.
