  This is me being thesis-brained but it reminded me of Rachel Cusk’s Outline where the protagonist doesn’t really voice her desires or hopes or fears and has no real identity but we still got a clear sense of it because they must begin where those of everyone else end. I think being an artist, a writer or actor for example, is interesting because it requires putting the self aside to absorb the other, but I’ve never thought about the experience…
