Everything about this movie is stupid. But in a 90's way, so I dig it. Major props to set design. They needed to establish a connection between Willis and a murder victim that he used to date... so they show him looking at a framed 8X10 of them together, THAT SHE SIGNED, that he keeps in his houseboat. Yes.

Fun enough for a Hitchcock wanna be.

Much in the same way Sicario wasn't telling a story I've never seen before, the same goes for this tale of revenge.

But the way it's told; the look (holy crap the look), the very real feel - everything about it was top notch. Especially Oscar worthy turns from both Dicaprio and Hardy. And Will Poulter (yes, the kid from We're The Millers) was really strong.

And finally, released a week after a brand new Star Wars that is packed with callbacks, who'd have thought that the best Original Trilogy tribute would come from this film, in the most graphic ton-ton scene imaginable.

Maika Monroe is all in and the best part of this. Otherwise, it’s edited to hell, leaving you trying to catch up to where they’re trying to take the story. The only time it ever lingers is in its hyperviolence which - at a runtime of 2 hours - is wayyy too often.

I can’t help thinking though, that if Nic Cage brought his manic energy to Bob instead of Coster-Waldeau playing it super straight, this could have been something.
