  The rawest, most "sane" instances we see Mabel is when she is having moments with her children. Whereas her surrounding family  projects onto Mabel their opinion of her mental state, her kids see her in her purest form, and she can most relate to their wholesome relationship in which they truly love her and see her as their mother, rather than a person who owes them.
