I really enjoyed this film. I was put off by some reviews saying that it was disappointing that it was just a bog standard biopic with none of the flair and invention of recent offerings such as Rocketman, however I thought the story and sense of place and time that Mangold presented didn't require any other type of film making. However 'm a non-obsessive Bob Dylan fan and that probably sucked me in enough regardless of any auteur director traits.…
I like both Alien and Aliens, remember not particularly liking Alien 3 and have not seen any others in the franchise.
I really enjoyed this. I saw it on IMAX and thoroughly enjoyed just taking it all in. The mining colony at the start really came to life as a believable location.
The rest of the film was enjoyably predictable from a narrative perspective but engaged me through a decent script and characters and excellent cinematography and mise-en-scene.
Good location, nice to see links to Princess & the Frog. Interesting start, good positive representations. Good narrative set up forcing the people into the house together; then quickly descends into a by the numbers haunting tale but without any scares. Waste of Winona Ryder. Fairly satisfactory subtext related to death and grief.
