Was scared it wasn’t gonna live up for a bit then I remembered I was in safe hands. It’s sort of the perfect balance that I think most superhero films stride for, and this truly did it best. Can’t believe it’s 17 years this year.

2001: A Space Odyssey 1968
Music seems like a fundamental part of horror. For films like Psycho it is an essential fear factor, but 2001 manages to disprove that and prove it in the same film? No other film (other than maybe Alien) manages to capture how slow, quiet and dull space and space travel is whilst also making an edge-of-your-seat thriller. But then again aren't the scariest scenes the ones with the monoliths where some of the creepiest operatic music plays in the background?…
