Giant 1956
We visited Marfa, TX and stayed at the Hotel Paisano, where the crew for "Giant" stayed in 1955 (?). We also visited the big billboards about the film outside of town. So, we were curious about the film and rented it when we got home. Very weird. James Dean has memorable performance as a poor ranch hand who inherits some land and strikes oil. Rock Hudson marries Elizabeth Taylor and they both age gracefully in the film. Hudson has a memorable fistfight with a cafe owner to defend the honor of his half-Mexican grandchild towards the end. Too long, and slow by current standards.

Flow 2024
A beautiful film about animals cast adrift in a sunken world. Humans are mysteriously absent, although their works are part of the film. There is no dialog at all, but it is not missed. The main "characters" are animals and I was struck by the fact that the animals in the film had a lower resolution that everything else on screen. I have heard since that may be intentional on the part of the filmmaker.

Fly Me to the Moon 2024
Basically a romantic comedy set against the Apollo 11 moon launch in 1969. If you look up "wooden acting", Channing Tatum will come up, but since his character is wooden, I guess that is OK. Scarlett Johansson is good. A Nice period recreation.
