This movie certainly presents some interesting points but might think it’s smarter than it is. It has a lot to say about religion and the power structures it creates that is well foiled with the Mormon protagonists. Outside of this sort of high minded allegory it is just a pretty exciting thriller with great twists and turns. Worth a watch for sure.

Marvel and really lost the plot. This movie managed to be boring with fairly uninspired action sequences and a nonsense plot that has no stakes at any point. Ryan Reynolds’s charm has begun to ware off and many of the jokes felt tired. Maybe if I had watched every marvel movie before this it would have been more entertaining but that’s a high barrier for entry to an action comedy.

Perfectly cast. Kieran Culkin crafts a beautifully  divisive, lovable, and tragic figure and Jesse eisenberg delivers one of the best monologues Ive seen. Parts of this movie had me crying on the plane as I watch, really touching exploration of generational trauma, growth, and loss in all senses of the word.

For a move that could be about so much it has very little to say. Some gestures to internal strife within religious organizations but all feels mostly toothless. The ending twist is the only real commentary, and I respect the chose to not explain too much and just let the film breath. What makes this movie extremely watchable is the stellar performances from leading actors.
