Plot holes, design deficiencies, Joseph Gordon levitt’s bad voice acting, and annoying comic relief characters abound. Somehow still a four and a half. That’s daddy issues for ya

I’m sort of appalled by how critics are reacting to this. I’ve never seen such a strong disconnect between critics and audiences. This is exactly what people have been wanting. It’s what Scott Cawthon wants. It’s loyal to the game and an overall great adaptation. The dream sequences remind me of the mini games, and the way the film discusses memory is especially perfect. Critics are looking at this as if it’s under the banner of A24 and it’s not. It’s fun, something critics don’t understand. This is the definition of “for the fans” and if you don’t like it, shut the fuck up.

As we look back with Chihiro on a dark tunnel with otherwise no particular meaning, we mourn this life with her that we never even had. As spiritual and ethereal as her journey was, we felt like we undertook it with her. And yet, unbeknownst to Chihiro, as she looks away, even though it’s memory couldn’t be further away, her hair tie sparkles. That’s how I feel about my memories. Gone but not forgotten, and more importantly the mark you left as a result of them has made the world a better place. Probably the purest film ever made
