The Night of the Hunter 1955
It had its moments—most especially the final few minutes—coupled with Stanley Cortez’s gorgeous, surreal, German expressionism-inspired cinematography. But, for me, to quote Spike Lee who actually likes this film: “It wasn’t my cup of tea.”

A melting pot of influences and references—modern consumerism and mass production, Dante’s “The Divine Comedy”, Fascist Italy during the 1940s, Ancient Roman politics & culture, and of course, Marquis de Sade’s “The 120 Days of Sodom” (I might’ve missed some more)—served to almost absolute perfection, Pasolini’s final offering to cinema (still) satisfies and disgusts.

Killer of Sheep 1978
Beautifully and arrestingly poignant, and heart-wrenchingly real. Plus, that one scene where Stan and his wife were dancing to Dinah Washington’s “This Bitter Earth”… instantly up there as one of my favorite scenes in cinema. Just absolutely enamored with this film.
