The Seed of the Sacred Fig 2024
Filmed in secret and smuggled out on foot from Iran this film is worth seeing not just for it’s exciting origin but for having a critical portrayal of Iran that doesn’t descend into tired tropes or cartoonish western propaganda. The film’s antagonist isn’t a stereotypical misogynist but a man twisted by his motivation to protect and maintain his family at any cost even if that cost is his own family.
