Naomi Ackie is a STAR. Goddamn how can you steal every scene so effortlessly?

Lotta heavy handed messaging, I mean truly it’s laid on thick as hell, especially from Ruffalo’s character. Wish we got more Toni Collete. The Sci-fi was cheesy and kinda cute for the most part…I think it worked?

Did I mentioned Naomi Ackie is a star?

Sure, this is Netflix Grade A bullshit in addition to reviving a series that didn’t need to be revived just for the fuck if it, but I enjoyed seeing this in the theater for an early access screening. I laughed a ton and the cast delivered for the most part. It’s always a delight seeing Eddie on the screen even if his glory days are behind us.

I like to approach films like I do with most things in my life: with an open mind and as unbiased as possible. To be fair, I typically don’t care for the personal lives of celebrities, but sometimes headlines are impossible to ignore and this week I saw a headline with Jonathan Majors more or less confessing to some pretty awful wrongdoing. The last three or so minutes are some of the best filmmaking ever. I mean, that’s true for the entire two hours and twenty minutes, but I especially fell in love with the second-to-last scene, where the man walks as bombs explode around him.

I really appreciated the perspective here—especially in how it depicts the perils of colonialism. The effects are long-lasting, still felt to this day. The power of togetherness should never be underestimated.

I knew when George was baking dinner in a Mauviel Copper Roasting Pan this was going to be a banger.

Michael Fassbender plays the stoic, never-speak-above-a-certain-decibel-level, gentlemanly type perfectly and to have Cate Blanchett match his character in terms of suave and stature is just wonderful. This is quietly a romance film and that’s only one of many reasons why this movie works so well. The four main supporting characters are smart, personable, and cunning, complementing both each other and the leads.

Might be my new favorite Soderbergh!
