“Nostalgia : Denial of a painful present”.

Moved to the core by this film, I found consolation in knowing I’m not the only one who longs to have been born in a time where simple pleasures were the norm for life. A world where the art scene depicted love, grief, lust, happiness…

We often forget how lucky we are to be alive. How incredibly fortunate we are to look back and remember that the past is still alive through people,…

    The Substance

What started off as a great idea, became my worst nightmare.

The substance, is a film based around the fact that society today revolves around the concept of beauty. A beauty merely exterior, superficial and twisted.

Even though it carries out an important message of how the world functions based off on what it sees on the outside of people, the Gorey, horrific and tragic turn of events made me far more concerned for the producers than for the world as a whole and it’s superficial ideals.

This movie, for me, is crafted in an intricate and mundane manner that was slightly melancholic, but also very interesting.

I thought Meryl (as in most cases) delivered the role she played very pleasantly. Her character was dull, self absorbed, and highly unlikely to have much influence over the rest of the cast. I thought she was wonderful.

And regarding the rest, I thought they were a great combination of both dull but also mysterious people. I’d recommend this to people looking for a movie that really captures how age and greed work together to imbalance people’s lives and relationships.
