A good-old feel good film that you would expect from Studio Ghibli. As fantasy and dreamy as the movie gets, the attention to detail and minute brushes of life gives the movie a strong sense of verisimilitude and even relatability. Personally, the greatest aspect of the movie is the protagonist’s family dynamic that was portrayed. The ending leaves me asking for more, and while it was extremely cheesy and anti-climatic, it is not uncharacteristic for Japanese movies/narratives to take such a fromage-y turn.
But all in all, a very good watch.
151 minutes that I wished I could’ve spent elsewhere. I would’ve watched The Borat Movie twice.
