I've watched lots and lots of television over the years. And while television is have its worst moment in decades, this pilot is still leagues above the very best of the medium. So much to glean from. Structurally bombproof, explosively emotional. 

With Twin Peaks Lynch maximized what he could get away with within the confines of tube tv. His advancements in television storytelling expanded the 4:3 aspect ratio to widescreen and in Lynchian fashion took things even further with The Return by breaking all four walls of the television entirely to penetrate something even bigger, and deeper. Fucking legend. I mean, who makes a fucking FAN scary?!

Odd. I just watched The Phantom Menace and wasn't physically repulsed by its every frame? Maul/lightsaber acrobatics is pure childhood bliss.

Sean Connery throws a fucking KNIFE into some dude's THROAT from like fifteen feet away and that’s all you really need to know about this picture.

Painfully average for its 4.1 (4.3 as of 2/26) rating on here. Formulaic, infantile, and rarely funny (lots of cute moments though). Its hand drawn aesthetic feels less like an attention to detail or craftsmanship, but more like a cost cutting technique mandated by Dreamworks as evidenced by its muddy color grade.
