Pirates of the Caribbean triple bill: part 2
My main gripe with this one is the addition of a lot of slapstick comedy which slightly damages the otherwise slightly dark tone of the film (that is, compared to similar blockbusters). I thought the whole act with the tribespeople was unnecessary and unfortunately using a problematic stereotype/trope for gags.
Otherwise a fine follow up to the first film in the trilogy.

Alright, so this one is a special one for me, cause I've spent the last two months rinsing through the 900 pages of the original Dune trilogy, and avoiding this film at all costs - to avoid spoiling my own internal image of Dune.
Villeneuve does an incredible job of capturing the aesthetics of the book. Frank Herbert would be very pleased, I think. The casting is very good, not necessarily what I would have gone for but that's okay.…

The Tragedy of Macbeth 2021
Brilliant cinematography and a great cast, including a showstealing performance from Kathryn Hunter as the Three Witches. A very memorable interpretation. I hope to see Joel Coen do more in this space!
