  „Does giving birth alone make someone a mother?“
  This film is a fantastic representation of individuals of different ages, genders, appearances, backgrounds and stories. They found each other and took care of one another. Kore-eda perfectly shows how a shared factor like ‚surviving everyday‘ connects people and forms a family. It is not blood or birth that unites a family. Especially in their situation—shoplifting, sex work, gambling—each person’s story was written in a way that sometimes might not be realistically or believably portrayed. However, in this film, it was precisely this authenticity that made it so successful.
