Dial M for Murder 1954
That judge was without a doubt Hitchcock's most horrific villain to date. Also, what is it with Hitchcock and having tennis players getting roped into murder plots? Maybe that's what was missing in "Challengers" for me, great film just needed a healthy dose of murder plot.
I love the "Dial M for Murder" backstory about the film being made with 3D in mind, hence a few strange shots. However, it's like the only film I've seen that adhered to this new practice that was actually competent. And not going to lie, I wouldn't mind watching this in 3D if the opportunity ever arrived.

Night Is Short, Walk On Girl 2017
Drinking, used book sales, and falling in love. Now that's living. As is with the other films I've seen from Masaaki Yuasa, this film immaculately depicts some of the best aspects that life has to offer. Unlike his other films however, "Night Is Short, Walk On Girl" is primarily a feel-good comedy, and doesn't really have that gut punch that "Mind Game" or "Ride Your Wave" has. That's not a criticism either, I was pleasantly surprised at how good this film made me feel. Like three or four cocktails deep good. Just enjoyable in every way imaginable.

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg 1964

Honestly, I'm happy for Guy. Madeleine is a very lovely woman and he seemed genuinely happy to be with her. And I don't hold anything against Geneviève, she didn't ask for these circumstances. That's what made me really love this film, it's strict refusal to villainize anyone. And that's the strangest thing about love sometimes, finding happy endings through heartbreak.
Demy is also a brilliant storyteller. "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" is extremely rich in thematic outlooks on love. Not to…

King of New York 1990
Abel Ferrara films are just what I need sometimes. Short, thought provoking, and exciting. And "King of New York" is the most exciting work I've seen from him yet. "King of New York" is a fascinating film that explores the line between crime and politics and how they are not that different.
Frank White is a crime boss that wants to be mayor with seemingly good intentions. He has wealth, power, and drive. Only problem being that Frank doesn't have…
