The criterion edition's special features show every detail of the film being thoughtfully executed, this level of precision is hard to match. Scenes of brutality overstay their welcome but prove useful in the end. The score binds all the contrasts: the forlorn case, the wistful countryside. The Seoul thinker, the Hwaesong drop kicker. The gruesome cadavers, the delicious meals. There is no argument, Bong Joon Ho is a master.

A Real Pain 2024
Thoughtful manifestations of intergenerational trauma are drowned out by Culkin's over the top performance. The short run time has good intentions but scatterbrained delivery, its' lead Benji embodies this. No one truly develops, but what is presented is poignant. The style of production is more in line with a limited series, which this script would have worked better as.

The Wind That Shakes the Barley 2006
The type of Irish realism found in J.M. Synge play. A fantastic ensembles lays out the costs of war with a perfectly subdued lead in Murphy. The production treats the grave story with respect, preferring gorgeous wide shots of Ireland without romanticizing it's context.
