Like a lot of Kitano's movies, it's just a movie where you don't watch it for the plot or character development. You're there for the ride, like a fly on the inside of a car window (instead of a wall). The characters are rigid and unpredictable (sorta reminiscent of Lanthimos' characters)
But the dude has an uncanny ability to capture some really beautiful/strange scenes amidst all the chaos.
