Weird: The Al Yankovic Story 2022
The only thing I knew about this movie going in was that it was supposed to be a "very exaggerated" biopic.
I'm so glad I went in blind, because this is so much more than that. It's pretty much an anti-biopic with a single toe dipped into reality. I loved how seemingly dumb and smart it was simultaneously. I loved the acting and the casting. I loved the music, the story, and how it pretended to take itself seriously. Also one of my favourite endings to any movie I've ever seen. I think my favourite thing about this movie was how absolutely unpredictable it is. It spends the first half establishing this almost-stereotypical setup of a stripper marrying a rich foreigner, but instead of some hokey adventure movie or a violent gangster movie, it just turns into a loud awkward domestic dispute that gets progressively sloppier and more chaotic.
