OHHHH MY GOD. YES YES AND YES. A genuine, raw, lesbian relationship and man disliking/independence thirsting women !!! One of my favorites ever.

So this was probably one of my favorite movies to exist. As a ballerina growing up (ballet and classical music being one of the repressed loves of my life) seeing the strict attitudes of the eastern European instructors and the general culture of ballet in a film was so nostalgic. And there was something about Nina and Leroy’s “relationship” that was so infatuating, and entirely inappropriate, but still obviously very complex. Her dedication to the craft to a literal deathly extent whilst having no money or autonomy to leave her mother perfectly explains the circumstances of the average prima ballerina.
