I have not seen a more magical movie which portrays human relationships the way this movie does. The line ' you kissed me - what're you 12?' is so simple and yet so honestly brutal. This gives you a whole view of a real relationship - love, insecurity, jealousy, hatred and victory for some. Brilliant work!

The first hour and a half is a visceral approach to a new form of horror. Something between the satirical expression of an aesthetic-war subjectivation in late capitalism, and a phenomenological-corporal horror. The self against its body, against itself; the body against itself. But, the satirical form at the end, and the excess of representation make a rebound effect. Unfortunately, The Substance did not manage to become a cult work for posterity, having much to achieve it.
