Oh my God, YES! This is all I wanted it to be and so much more.

After not liking the original movie as much as I hoped, I put off watching this. Until my GF brought it up again, and I am so glad she did.

Blade Runner 2049 takes what I adored about the first movie, and adds in everything the original was missing.

The plot is so strong. I was engaged all throughout, and couldn't stop gushing over…

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

I don't get how we could sink any lower than everything after the first Resident Evil, which was somewhat enjoyable.

This movie wastes half of it's short runtime, on setting up the rest instead of just throwing the protagonists into the action like the games do. The movie mostly nails the visuals, only to then throw in godawful visual effects.
But worst if all, it takes the kinda trashy bonkers story of the games and makes it more convoluted and…

    Longlegs

    ★★★

Longlegs drew me in with it's thick and heavy atmosphere. With it's imaginative and slow camera work. But every time the movie gripped me, Nicolas Cage ripped me right back out of its arms.

This might be one of his most focused and calm roles he ever played, yet his random silly antics still took any and all mystery, danger or scariness away the antagonist could have had and was build up to have.
And the thing is, I think…

A powerful exploration of aging, loss of self, self-hatred, and the artificiality of beauty in our society, but especially in Hollywood. Nothing that will turn your world upside down, but manages to make these things feel as uncomfortable as the body horror.
Both Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley act their hearts out, with Moore especially giving an incredibly brave performance.

The prosthetic effects were just mind-blowingly well done and disgustingly grotesque. And most of the few CGI effects were used…

I have watched this movie probably more times than it deserves, but it's just so much fun. Some of the jokes didn't age well, but most of them hold up surprisingly well, probably because a lot of the movie's jokes don't really rely on political commentary. The butt of the joke most of the time is its characters.

And the ensemble is just really great. Whoever cast this film seriously needs a raise.

If you want a lighthearted movie to watch with a few friends on movie night, you cant really go wrong with this one.
