Best Thanksgiving film ever, vintage early 2000s indie aesthetics, looks like an old Instagram filter which adds to the aesthetic.
Certainly dated in many ways but still manages to move you with a simple tale of an lower east side Bohemian trying to cook a traditional turkey dinner for her estranged dying mom and family. Not melodramatic but wry and melancholy but still uplifting without resorting to theatrics.
The writing by Peter Hedges is simple but sagacious in its depiction…

The Blackcoat's Daughter 2015
Great atmosphere, cinematography, and acting. Twist is foreshadowed but overall the emotional impact is delivered at the end. Some might find it somewhat slow and obtuse but great movie for elevated horror fans
