Albeit a fascinating true story, this one is better left as word-of-mouth fun fact exposition. Spielberg’s emotionally stunted interpretation of the story, coupled with DiCaprio’s lackluster performance result in nothing more than an underwhelming, dragged out, check-your-watch-in-the-middle picture resembling nothing in Spielberg’s otherwise phenomenal repertoire. With momentary sparks of care thanks to Williams’ twinkling score, the film explores the themes of desperation and futility without an emotional connection to the audience.
