Rewatching this knowing the secret makes it seem so obvious the whole time. Also it makes watching frustrating because everyone just seems so stupid and obsessive, but I guess that's kinda the point.

Art is created to be shared. This movie shows lifelong bonds and connections all originating from a community space created by a love for art. These spaces are dwindling, and in the 30+ years since this movie released it has only become more relevant.

Whiplash 2014
As a jazz musician I feel like this is more of a sports movie with the setting of "jazz." The fierce coaching, practicing until he's dripping sweat and blood, and the triumphant ending just don't make sense in the culture of jazz as I understand it. Because of that it is hard to take this movie seriously and is just painful to sit through.
But the performances, cinematography, and story of what obsession/passion can take from a person is fantastic.
