This precise brand of magical realism makes me so nostalgic for the imagination games of my girlhood.

AGOGNO L’ESTATE ITALIANA. (And I’m noticing Luca Guadagnino appears to have a thing for a strong sunglasses motif.)

Loved the attention to the color scheme — colorfully thoughtful costumes with some aesthetically *gorgeous* shots. The arguable lack of ultimate justice and complicity of so many of these asshole men and the apathy of other bystanders is frustrating, but in an artistically genius way to make a powerful social statement in revealing the true (not so hidden) undertones of how society reacts to women speaking out against sexual assault. The unsatisfying feeling you are left with as the credits roll makes for a really provocative film. However… wish that it had dug more into exploring Nina as a real person and into Cassie’s psyche.
