Wicked 2024
Die hard fans will love it. The sets are spectacular, songs special and performances great. Choreo for What is this feeling is fantastic. It’s a long film which allows it to unpack the story beyond the stage show but this results in a pacing issue. There is an intentional backlighting throughout key scenes, it’s a nice method but made some scenes seem very dark.
The Royal Festival Hall might not have been the best viewing venue for this - clearly a film made with lots of heart and after a few days of consideration I’d like to see it again and reevaluate.

There is so much to unpack in this film. While the edges of this story are very extreme the themes are a true and familiar narrative that I suspect will resonate with many gay and curious men.
There is an incredible choreography between vulnerability, eroticism, fear, rage, love and joy that I cannot quite articulate.
I so desperately wanted them to make it, for it to work out ok for them and really thought it might.
