Because of WWII YouTube videos I enjoy while falling asleep I was brought back to this. I had seen this when it first came out but remembered practically nothing from it.

The July plot caught my interest because of how close to success it really got to killing Hitler and changing history forever. This is a very Americanized take on the ordeal, them speaking English to start. Overall though it’s an enjoyable historical movie.

I think I narrowed down why I dislike Wes Anderson movies. It’s entirely because of their stage play esque style. There are redeeming qualities I really enjoy about his movies though, just not enough to be a fan of them completely. This has by far and away been my favorite of his I’ve seen so far.

Some of the shots are so unique and beautiful that you can’t help but enjoy them. At times the dialogue is so pleasing to the ear that I repeat it to myself. The flavors scene at the end for example is perfect.

Comparison: it’s Wes Anderson, he’s his own style

I have to start out by saying Daniel Day-Lewis is the greatest actor of all time and I don’t think anybody is particularly close for me. It’s truly remarkable watching him perform. Daniel Plainview is a hell of character for him to sink his teeth into.

By the end of the movie you are left with the conviction that Plainview is a diseased person who has outcompeted everybody else to the point that he’s poisoned himself. It’s also easy…

This was overrated for what I was expecting. I still enjoyed it because of the top notch cast and good enough plot. I can see the appeal but this one is just not up there for me.

Pretty much every relationship seems dull and it’s the core of the movie. We barely see any of Judd and Kilmer’s, Pacino and his wife I didn’t believe at all. De Niro met his girl twice and wanted to quit his life and fly to New Zealand.

Comparison: The Town copied this and is leaps and bounds better imo
