A strange and visually stunning walk through time (1600s-1990s). Tilda Swinton is pale and haunting. I have not read the original novel by Virginia Woolf but it’s certainly a wild story.

Cha Cha Real Smooth 2022
This one took me a bit by surprise. It encapsulates a lot of genuine feeling. Cooper Raif, with whom I was not previously familiar, is very compelling in his role. My main note is that Domino is a stupid name for Dakota Johnson’s character.

A Real Pain 2024
I was excited about this movie as I’m currently writing my undergraduate capstone thesis on a topic related to Polish Holocaust memory. Unfortunately, it was a bit hard to watch and the characters were not fully fleshed out. Jesse Eisenberg was playing himself and Keiran Cullkan’s character was nearly excruciating which I think was the point? I wish there had been a fuller, deeper exploration of Jewish identity, Poland, and Holocaust memory as it is such a rich topic. I did appreciate Eisenberg repping IU I guess, and there were moments that I enjoyed.
