Final film of my self-prescribed J.C. Chanuary. Fun but mostly unremarkable heist thriller with characters whose sense of morality seems to randomly flicker on and off.

J.C. Chandor is hard to get a read on. This and Margin Call particularly are trying to simultaneously sympathize with and criticize some obviously controversial characters but  just come off as someone’s dishonest mea culpa. Is he sacrificing insight for a more widely accessible movie or is this what he has to offer? Does it matter? 

Weird Chandorverse tie-in: Pedro Pascal was wearing the hat of Oscar Issac’s company from A Most Violent Year.
