reaffirms both my nostalgic love for the Caribbean, and my general aversion to puppetry as an art form…someone REALLY needed to show this director the scene from ‘Being John Malkovich’ where John Cusack tells Catherine Keener that the allure of puppeteering is ‘being in someone else’s skin, feeling what they feel’ and she says ‘YIKES!’

Genuinely very scary, + engaging despite a longer runtime. Honestly might be the best movie remake of the millennium that is not a revamp / major reimagining?? Def a masterful entry into the cannon of vampire movies by Eggers, whose experience with period pieces, folklore-inspired horror (the witch) and straight psychological horror (the lighthouse) really give the film the kind of rich detail and meticulous dialog needed…Translated from by -
