    Breath-taking.

From first beat to last this film has you in a chokehold and doesn't let go. Portman delivers such a vulnerable and layered performance that has left me in awe of her dedication to the role.

Aronofsky utilises this one-person narrative in a way that is rarely seen. There is hardly even a shot, let alone a scene where Portman's character does not feature. The entire runtime is dedicated to her descent into madness and how her insecurities and…

From a technical perspective this is brilliant. The score had me absolutely glued to my screen for the opening half hour, the practical effects are solid and the lighting adds greatly to the whole scary tone. The gimmick is that she has the brain of a child and yet so many people are willing to marry her and…

    Epic.

Epic in every sense of the word. Epic proportions, epic performances, epic ideas and most importantly a truly epic story.

The Brutalist is a film where we follow the life of architectural genius and holocaust survivor, László Toth (Adrien Brody). The genre of 'fictional biopic' is one of my favourites in all of cinema, I especially take to this genre as there is a great unpredictability and artistic license that makes for excellent stories. This is one of the…
