I liked Interstellar better the second time - don't remember what my deal was before. For a film that takes pains to be more "realistic" than a lot of sci-fi, it's still necessary to be quite willing to suspend disbelief to maximally enjoy this, and I think being unable or unwilling will result in a much less enjoyable time. I think there's something about C. Nolan's desire to tell epic stories with a lot of forethought but without making sure…
I'll be honest, despite being very into Ghibli films, I was not sold at first here - perhaps unsurprising as I'm not that into planes or war as subject matter. But of course, I was won over and very much moved. It seems like the portrayal of the lead couple is maybe a little unrealistic in terms of them seeming like flawless characters (disease is not a character flaw!) but it didn't stop me from connecting to them or sympathizing…

I thought I'd seen this movie before, but I'd only seen the post-intermission part for a film scoring class I once took, it turns out. It also turns out that I'm that kind of freak that likes the monkey segment and the psychedelic end segment as much as the inner half of the movie. Incredible composition makes this fully captivating the entire way through. So thrilled I got to see it in 70mm on a big screen - big shout out to Portland's Hollywood Theater.
Holy cow. 2nd time seeing this, and it's been a while - I remember being very impressed but not fully loving the film, but I loved it this time. Full of heart and ingenuity and wonder and freaky, freaky spirits. Some twists on the Ghibli visual formula but they feel natural. Slams from creepy to lovely to goofy with no turn signals - all my favorite things are sad and joyous and funny and sincere all in one thing, and preferably simultaneously as often as possible. I need to watch this again!
