    PRE-CRIME

A lot of this vision of the future (the sky high murder rate, weird highways, and random child abduction) tells us more about our our past than our future, but the premise (3 people can foresee future homicides) is undeniably cool. The idea that somehow it could scale to the entire country with only three people doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense either. Fun, fast paced, and Tom Cruise at his action best.

What if you were told to stop the end of the world, but maybe to end it?

Hackman and Washington are each others equals and face each other down as they collectively stare into the abyss. Mortensen plays the pallatte cleanser of the man unsure just like most of us would be.

    A thinking man’s Red October.

    The Martian

    ★★★★

A relic of a more optimistic future from an age where mars exploration was not indelibly tied up in the fantasies of an Apartheid Fascist. With that said Damon impresses with a lot of solo acting, the cast is great, particularly the space crew, and Donald Glover does the most accurate rendition of a graduate student/post-doc ever seen in film. A pean to the internationalist, globalist future the worst people you know hate.

A film that tries. It may not succeeded but better to have reached for the heavens like Caesar Catalina than to have merely attempted to make an average film. Aubrey Plaza delights, Jon Voight entertains, and Adam Driver does his thing. We should all be so lucky for the greats to risk like Coppola did here.
