I think this could have worked if it embraced being a campy low-budget B movie. It has some dynamic directorial choices, and a unique setting. But, the voice-over makes it feel overly pretentious, and it is often incoherent.

Great documentary about a remarkable person. We need teachers like this in the world, who truly care about their kids and about honoring their culture and heritage. The film offers a surprisingly intimate portrait of Hina’s life, and her point of view. Without ever being explicitly political, it makes a compelling case for trans people being deserving of a dignity and respect that is sadly in short supply in today’s world.

I was initially enthralled by the clever sci-fi premise of this film, and did really like Robert Pattinson's performance, but not everything worked about it. I appreciate that Bong Joon Ho continues to choose interesting projects and new artistic directions, but I miss the darker and more serious tone of some of his earlier work. The comedy and satire here felt a bit light, and it kind of undercut the drama. That said, this was entertaining, and a unique experience. Glad I got to see it in theaters!

I found this entertaining, and some of the action set pieces were really impressive. The ending dragged a bit, though, and some of the prequel stuff where they are explaining how Fury Road came to pass felt a bit misguided. I've always appreciated how the Mad Max franchise doesn't worry much about narrative continuity from one film to the next, so for this one to do so much of that was unexpected. That said, I would definitely be down for more of this world if George Miller wants to give it to us at some point!
