Alternative title for this film should be "Thirst: The Movie". I don't understand all the stuff I had read online about Mara and Blanchett having no chemistry, because I saw nothing else between them but good chemistry. Maybe it's because I am a queer woman myself and most of the comments of no chemistry I have seen were made by straight men, but I felt giddy and squeally all the way through the film.

Have I mentioned that I love Fritz Lang? No? Well, I do. He was a madman and treated his crew really badly, but his films were so wonderful. M is so complex yet so simple, with the complete lack of music so that the whistling of the murderer stands out even more. Peter Lorre captures the mentality of an insane killer so well and we will feel sorry for him at points while still feeling so disgusted of the things he has done and his excuses for doing it.

Good to see Griffith actually working with something other than a very fragile passive woman. We see a woman getting challenged and treated horribly in life, then building herself up, even outing the man who deceived her and did her wrong to the very people who were judging her at first.
I really love Gish in this role, it was inspiring to see her in a more active role and she is really convincing in the role as a woman made stronger by the injustices she has faced while still haunted by the memories.Translated from by
