As a person who has a soft, calm energy (most of the time), I have faced a lifelong challenge, often verging on frustration: for people to see the strength and capability I can bring to a job. To be given those “main character” chances that the charming, outgoing people are gifted so frequently. For me, watching this movie was a philosophical experience, a $180 million dollar version of that lifelong challenge. I find that I can’t set me personal experience aside, and instead my heart is crying out for everyone to just give it a chance, and to let Anthony Mackie succeed.

Adrian Brody, covered with dirt and blood, jumps down from his hiding place between the cement pillars. Face a mask of seething rage, he punches Guy Pearce in the skull. As Pearce collapses to the ground, Brody sneers: “You’ve just been brutalized.”

I watched this in France, and had to whisper-translate all the Russian-subtitled-in-French for my husband, but there were many moments where all I could muster was a summary because I was too wrapped up in it all. Now I’m lying here basking in the warm sweet vibes of that perfect ending. I could bundle up inside this feeling forever.
