  A wonderful dreary atmosphere that builds some suspense around the mystery, but it’s not a scary film, and I’m not really sure it was trying to be. It’s a morose family drama and some ghostly goings-on, which is not a bad thing, just different than I expected.

  Like a duller, less greasy and less violent version of Maniac (1980) and features a death strikingly similar to a set piece in Silent Night, Deadly Night, beating it by 20 years, having been shot in ‘64 and released in ‘68. It also has some giallo vibes with a back gloved killer which is always nice, but it’s mostly drama and chatting. The 60s aesthetic and the fact that it is a nearly unheard of film make it a cool curiosity, but it’s no lost gem.

  My rating is a bit unfair as this is a well produced documentary, but the people it follows are utterly despicable. Ava is nasty and delusional with fruit flies all over her house and Jumanne is a desperate, pathetic future criminal. The others are dumb, but these two were the worst and I imagine every viewer will hate them. These people don’t live in reality.
