Irma Vep is extremely fascinating but I feel like I was just out of touch with it. The meta look at the state of French cinema, and essentially a satire on the endless debate on what is good French cinema. I found the rise of fall of Maggie's relationships with the cast and crew most fascinating. Plus wow, what a commitment to method acting.
TBH, I watched this specifically for Maggie Cheung. I, like Assayas and René, would make an entire movie just to cast Cheung.
